"Women who have used a doula are more satisfied with their birth experience, feel more confident in their ability to mother, bond faster with their newborn, are less likely to have postpartum depression, and are more likely to breastfeed." -Klaus, Kennel, and Klaus 2001"
Whether you are expecting a new baby in the family, or just want to learn more about Doulas, you've come to the right place. Please enjoy!
Baby Beginnings Doulas are committed to supporting women through one of life's most wonderful and powerful events; the birth of a baby.
Historically, a woman’s sisters, mother, aunties, or other women in the community experienced in pregnancy, birth, and baby care, would care for the mother-to-be. It is a privilege to be able to continue that tradition, by providing the support and encouragement that a mother to be needs.
Doula, from the Greek word meaning slave, is a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during, and just after childbirth.
A doula complements the care a woman is already receiving, and adds a caring, nurturing presence to all.
"I am here to listen, not to work miracles.
I am here to help you discover what you feel, not to make your feelings go away.
I am here to help you identify your options, not to tell you what to do.
I am here to discuss steps with you, not to take steps for you.
I am here to help you discover your own strength, not to rescue you and leave you vulnerable.
I am here to encourage you to choose, not to make it unnecessary for you to make difficult choices.
I am here to provide support during what will most likely be,
the most memorable experience in your lifetime!" (author unknown)
